After testing more than 30 computer speakers and soundbars over the last few years, I always return to the Audioengine A2+. With an elegant design and quality construction, they are compact enough for my busy desktop.
But don’t be fooled by the small stature—these speakers pack a serious punch. The clarity in the higher registers gave me instant goosebumps with songs like Sinéad O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” but there’s also depth and accuracy in the mids. While the lack of a subwoofer means the bass can be a little shallow, it’s not distractingly so.
Music is where the Audioengine A2+ shines, but I had no trouble hearing cloaked Elites with positional sound in Halo Infinite, and voices came through crisp and clear during in-game chat, video calls, and movies.
Connectivity is well rounded with USB-C, dual analog inputs, and Bluetooth 5.3 support (aptX). Just watch out for jumps in volume with different input devices. The volume knob, which also turns the speakers on or off, is a little awkward behind the left speaker, and there’s no remote, but I have no other complaints about these PC speakers. You can also upgrade the A2+ by adding a subwoofer and 15-degree stands.
Audioengine updated the A2+ in 2025, making the best even better by adding Bluetooth 5.3, 24-bit audio, and USB-C connectivity. The Razer Nommo V2 Pro brings significant improvements in both design and performance. It boasts a sleeker, more space-efficient design, although it’s not exactly compact. The addition of a wireless control puck makes it even more convenient to use, and the overall audio quality is noticeably better.
The standout feature of this 2.1 system is its exceptional audio performance. In our tests, it delivered clear, detailed highs and rich, prominent mids. Plus, it packs a punch with its bass and rumble that practically shakes the building. While the soundstage is broad, the sound imaging is impressive. Switching to THX Spatial Audio enhances the gaming experience, adding immersion while keeping the sound natural.
Granted, this level of speaker excellence comes at a cost, and for the Razer Nommo V2 Pro, it’s quite steep. However, if you’re particular about audio quality, this investment offers excellent value, especially compared to pricier audiophile systems.
Edifier M60 Multimedia Speaker
The M60 is proof that Edifier knows how to pack a lot of speaker into a tiny box. Each unit is barely bigger than a large phone (100 x 168 x 147mm) but houses a 1-inch silk dome tweeter and a 3-inch aluminum mid-low driver, pushing a combined 66W RMS across the pair.

For a desk setup where space is tight, that’s a real selling point. The build feels solid too, each speaker weighs around 1.5kg thanks to the wooden cabinet construction, so these don’t feel like cheap plastic boxes despite the small footprint.
Sound-wise, the M60 punches well above its size. Vocals come through with good presence and the mids sound detailed without getting harsh. Since it supports Hi-Res Audio and LDAC over Bluetooth 5.3, you actually notice a difference streaming lossless tracks compared to standard Bluetooth speakers in this price range. USB-C input is a nice touch too since it uses the speaker’s own DAC for cleaner digital audio straight from a laptop. The one caveat is bass. The 3-inch drivers can only do so much, so if you’re expecting room-filling low end you’ll want to pair it with a subwoofer eventually, especially if you push the volume past moderate desk listening levels.
For the price point, it’s hard to find much to complain about. The touch controls are responsive, the companion app lets you tweak EQ presets if the default sound doesn’t match your taste, and the included stands actually make a noticeable difference by angling the drivers toward ear level instead of firing straight at your desk. During our testing, we were pleasantly surprised by the impressive audio performance, especially the deep bass produced by the ported speakers. The bass is so strong that you hardly miss having a subwoofer. Plus, the high-mids are subtly boosted, adding to the bright yet rich sound output.
While these speakers may take up a bit more desk space than you’d like, we highly recommend them. Unless you have a very small desk or are limited by budget constraints, these speakers are an excellent choice. The one-inch silk dome tweeters and five-inch woofers provide an amazing sound experience, especially when you turn up the volume.
